Pushed Back [UPDATE]

Just a little update. I emailed Terrence about the delay. This is what he said.

Hey Blaze,

No problem at all.  Thank you for checking in.

We intended to complete the merge this week; however, it has been postponed by a couple weeks because there are a few more things that I want to check off before being comfortable.  Just getting back after the holiday season, I want to take a little time, double check a few items, and ensure that we have completed everything on the list.  It has not been called off to be revised.

I plan to let people know the official date once I feel that it is 100% confirmed, which should be sometime next week.

Again, thanks for checking in, and have a great weekend!

Pretty much, the merge is being pushed back for a few weeks until Terrence feel all the loose ends are tied. We should be getting an official date next week. This also confirms that we will be getting some teen-only regions as well. For those who heard otherwise, no the merge is not cancelled until further notice.

Getting Pushed Back

A recent twitter PM by Terrence Linden explains that the Teen merge is being postponed to 1-3 weeks from now. This information is thanks to Daniel Voyager. A local Teen Grid resident, Doug Falta, confirmed with Jeremy Linden that an official date will be released by Terrence some time next week.

[2011/01/06 14:00]  Jeremy Linden: First: It appears we ran into some delays with the TSL move, so it’s been pushed back a couple weeks. He’ll know the exact dates by next week.
[2011/01/06 14:01]  Jeremy Linden: Second: There will be some teen-only regions after the move: Bonobos Isles 1-4

It appears that we will also be recieving some regions with a Teen-Only land rating. Something new that was unexpected.

It looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer before our teen accounts are finally on the Main Grid.

Teen Grid Blowout Event!

Whew, what an amazing night that was. On the 29th of December, 2010, a party organized by RosalieHale Quintessa was held in the sim Eros to bid Teen Second Life a fond farewell.

Speeches were made, awards were given, Teengo! was played, money was won, moves were busted, giftbags were given and photos were taken.

(Photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55279539@N02/sets/72157625707765720/ )

The most powerful words deliverd that night, by DylanRyan Faith, were “We just need to remember, all those people saying Teen Second Life is dying, that’s not true. We’ll still have our land, we’ll still have our friends, we’ll still have our groups. This isn’t an end for us. It’s only a new beginning.”

With 2010 drawing to a close, it is clear that we will all be faced with some new beginnings. My hopes for this year is that we can all continue to use Second Life the way we normally do. To create, so socialize and to have fun. Stand up straight, look forward and keep on moving.

Congratulations to the following winners!

Best DJ: Artemis Kangjon
25 Dollar Gift Visa Gift Card.

Global Kids Teen Merge Forum

The summary and transcript are now up! It’s up on http://olpglobalkids.org

Hello everyone! Hope you had a great Christmas and/or happy holidays.

I’m sure you all know that Teen Second Life’s closing is just around the corner, and with that, many are feeling the tension and excitement of this upcoming change.

Today, a forum was hosted at Global Kids by Rik GKid,  Rhiannon Ferlinghetti and Frans Marseille (TSL Approved Adults) to take a closer look at the feelings teens have towards the merge.

Some 20-30 teens participated (It was very short notice) and all shared their opinions. Here are the topics that were discussed.

  • Why teens oppose the merge
  • Why teens are for the merge
  • Treatment of teens by adults and vice-versa
  • Teen content creation
  • The loss of our “close community feel”
  • Ways of maintaining our “close community feel”
  • How residents under 16 feel about the merge
  • Alternatives to Second Life for those who are left out (Different open grids)

Overall, teens who are transferring seem to be excited about the merge, though they worry about how they amy be accepted into the adult community. Content creators see it as a positive change to be able to provide their products to more potential customers while others are excited about the new regions to explore.

Both teen age groups are not too happy about how well Linden Labs handled the younger group. Most feel that being enclosed in one region for 1-3 years or even cut off entirely before transferring is not a good decision.

Overall, the meeting proved to give quite a bit of insight on the feelings of those involved. It is clear that this move will not be easy, but like all other hard times, it seems we should make the best of it.

A transcript should be posted on the GK website soon.  olpglobalkids.org

Ignorance is Bliss…

(Ok seriously. Whoever created this saying has got to be the biggest fracking idiot on the planet.)

It seems Linden Labs has struck again creating even more holes in the grid merge project that it even rivals a piece of swiss cheeze.

Some exploring both in SL and on the marketplace have shone light on 2 fairly major issues.

1) Mature and adult regions are still visible. When standing in a PG region, you can turn up your draw distance and see up to 2 regions over. You are able to cam into mature regions and even adult regions with all of their contents out in plain sight.

2) The mess of the marketplace. A LOT of mature content is not labeled as such. I was able to purchase some fairly inappropriate freebie items from the marketplace (rest assured I did not even bother to accept them) with little to no trouble at all. Several listing for mature items, free or not, are visible and apparently buyable to ANY resident.

It’s clear the next few months will be VERY interesting.

That’s one small step for teen…

And one GIANT leap for us. Linden Labs has changed up their Terms Of Service. Users age 16 and over can now register on Second Life as teens! Our accounts are still transferring in early January, however, if you don’t want to wait (and don’t mind a naked inventory) you can hop on over to the main grid now!

Add CyrusBlue Resident if you like.
